EXTRA BARRELS: Winchester offered extra interchangeable barrels for its Model 42s, at customer’s request beginning in 1934. These extra sets of barrels are a rare option. Both barrels should have same barrel markings and matching serial numbers before originality can be considered. I will make a guess that your 9422 was manufactured somewhere around 1972 or early 1973. As to it's value, it looks to be in excellent condition so I would guess it would be worth around $600 to $800 in todays market. From my observations, it seems like the early models with no checkering on the wood bring more money. I have a 9422 just like yours except my rifle is in caliber .22LR. Like yours, my rifle is an early model with no checkering on the wood. It's serial number is F227002 and I was told that it was manufactured in 1975. My 9422 looks just great sitting next to my mint condition 1965 Marlin Golden 39A. In my opinion, the Winchester model 9422 and the older models of the Marlin Golden 39A are two of the best .22 caliber lever action rifles ever made. However, I think the Winchester has a much smoother action than that of the Marlin but to Marlin's credit, the Marlin seems to be a little more accurate than my 9422 but this may be due to the Marlin's longer barrel and longer sighting radius.

What I meant by I found it, is that I found the info I was looking for to confirm it's origin. With the help of a local Winchester dealer/collector, the SG was mfg in Japan by Miroku International. Thanks.

im sorry, thats not how i read it. if i had known, i would have told you all 101's were made in japan and made for winchester under their name starting in 1963. just about the time they were planning to convert over to the automated factory and do away with hand made guns.

i have a 12/20 set, with serial K5402xxE. anyone know when it was made, and anything else about it? It is engraved 'two barrel hunting set'. I have been told it is a Classic Double, but it says Made in Japan on bbls. One butt and one forend for both bbls. both bbls. have the # on each set, without the K nor E. Choke tubes and thread cleaners for each gauge.
thanks. bfb

Your dealer/collector is mistaken. Miroku did not make the 101, they were made by Olin/Kodensha.
101 history by serial number is scarce to non-existent after 1971. I have a pigeon 20ga that I'd like to know about, but the best I can do is prior to 1986, which is when I bought it.
